On the official Twitter account for the animated adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Kumiko Saiki, Kageki Shoujo!! (Opera Girl !!), a new update has been released revealing that the series has a release date in Japan for the next 3rd of July. The announcement also included a new commercial for the project.
Like Takarazuka Revue, young women who go to the Kouka Kageki High School arts academy perform all parts of musical theater, whether women or men. Narada Ai is a tired ex-idol who plays female roles – her roommate, who plays male roles, is bright-eyed country girl Watanabe Sarasa. From school to stage for the rest of their lives, there is no challenge these young women cannot face with their passion for acting.
Kazuhiro Yoneda (Akatsuki no Yona, Gleipnir, Mahou Shoujo Nante Mou Ii Desukara). He’s directing the anime at Pine Jam Studios. Tadashi Morishita (Akatsuki no Yona, Detective Conan) is in charge of writing and overseeing the scripts. Takahiro Ishida is responsible for character design, aided by Eriko Iida, Akira Takata, and Takao Maki. Eriko Iida, Akira Takata, and Tomoko Fukunaga are responsible for directing the animation. Tsuneyoshi Saito is responsible for composing the soundtrack, under the direction of Yukio Nagasaki.
The manga was officially released in 2012 under the title Kageki Shoujo! by Jump Kai by Shueisha, and the work ended with the end of the magazine in October 2014.
Later the manga was re-published by Melody Magazine in 2015 under the title Kageki Shoujo!! with two exclamation marks. Its 10th volume was released on November 5, 2020, and the manga was nominated at the 44th edition of Kodansha’s Manga Awards.
The Shueisha published the original manga in two volumes, but relaunched the series in one volume in March 2019 with the title Kageki Shoujo !! Season Zero. This is the volume that Seven Seas Entertainment has released in English with the title Kageki Shoujo!! The Curtain Rises on November 24th.
