A refreshing songwriter and singer, August 08, took his last breath on Tuesday (August 29, 2023).

This was a huge setback to the entire music industry as he was a rising star and had the immense potential to reach greater heights. The cause of death is still not unclear.

A representative of Def Jam Recordings released a statement,

“The entire Def Jam family mourns the tragic loss of Ray’ August 08′ Jacobs. A brilliant songwriter, an accomplished musician, and a singular artist, August will remain in our memory as a beloved colleague and friend. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.”

August 08: Released song named Funeral

He released a song named “Funeral” in 2019, which was quite popular for its lyrics: ‘Don’t say it at my funeral; say it to me now’. August 08 was successful in releasing two albums in 2022 titled “Seasick” and “Towards The Moon”.

August 08 released the most heartfelt song in June 2023 titled “Bruises”. He expressed his emotions for the song,

 “I been through a lot of heartaches in my love life, but I’ve always been able to put the pieces back together and move forward. ‘Bruises’ speaks to love and how it may waiver but never completely abandon us.”

This video represents love in all forms and how, no matter our differences, we can love through all. I love how music can connect people from all over, allowing for freedom of expression. I wanted to pay homage to the art and the community with love and respect.”

He previously worked with 88rising record label, which landed him the opportunity to work with Joji on his album “What We Used To Be”.

“RIP August, the kindest and most talented genius you will be missed beyond words,” 88rising shared on Instagram.

“Thank you for being an amazing mentor and a steadfast friend through all these years. We are forever grateful to you and the joy you brought into every room through every song. Your energy, guidance, and care gave so much inspiration and strength that will be carried on always.”

He also worked with ScHoolboy Q, Ty Dolla $ign, Duckworth, Kyle, and more, which brought him immense fame.

August 08 also got the chance to co-write DJ Khaled’s  “I’m the One” and Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” which is quite popular. He also collaborated with top artists like Jhené Aiko and Kehlani

Aiko said in an interview,

“August is an incredible writer, singer, and artist whose music speaks to me on so many levels… As a fellow Los Angeles native, I am so proud of him. August’s talent, love for songwriting, and hands-on approach to his art are something I can relate to and have a great amount of respect for. It was a natural evolution of our friendship and musical collaboration to have him become the first artist signed to Allel Sound. I couldn’t be more excited to work with August.” 

August 08’s sudden demise is a huge loss for the music industry. He will be remembered by thousands of fans who listen to his songs every day.
